The Inclusive Play Project hosted the Inclusive Fun Fair on June 8, 2024, at the Rideau Heights Community Centre and Library in Kingston. This lively, community-centered event was designed to celebrate accessible and inclusive play for children of all abilities, as well as raise awareness and funds for Kingston’s first fully inclusive playground.
The day featured a range of activities for families, including interactive mini story times led by Kingston Frontenac Public Library staff, sensory-friendly craft stations, and games that encouraged inclusive participation. Local vendors and community partners joined to provide food, information, and additional activities, making the fair a true community celebration.
The Inclusive Fun Fair wasn’t just about fun; it was a step toward fostering community involvement in the Inclusive Play Project’s mission to create a playground accessible to children with varying physical, sensory, and developmental needs. The event also included opportunities to learn about the project's progress, engage with organizers, and see the envisioned playground design plans, providing a clear picture of how this space will promote accessible, enjoyable play for all.
By attending and supporting the Inclusive Fun Fair, community members contributed directly to making this inclusive space a reality, with proceeds helping to fund specialized playground equipment, accessible ground surfacing, and other critical features. The event emphasized the power of community in creating spaces where every child feels welcome and able to participate.
